Research has shown that when children are beginning to read it is important that they develop a bank of commonly used words which they can recognise instantly. Knowing the most commonly used words by sight will make a child a faster and more fluent reader. These word are known as 'Sight Words' or'High Frequency Words'. They consist of approximately 200 words selected from the spoken language of young children, reflecting their interests and experiences and relating primarily to the family, home and school. Children need to learn to read these words at a quick glance. They are best learned through memorisation and repetition. This set of 94 illustrated picture and word cards with the word repeated on the back and 50 double sided word only cards introduces beginner readers to 194 most commonly used high frequency words.
